Project Description & Scope

NMDC was awarded the project to dredge the channel and basin of the Sulphur terminal in Ruwais. Deepening and widening the existing channel and basin of Brouje, as well as to create an artificial island with a total of 20 Million m³, where 80% was rock work and 20% soft material. NMDC, secured the project as an EPC, and developed the whole concept with, GASCO, from the design stage till the delivery. This area contained an oil and gas field, and it demanded a certain quality certification that NMDC possessed and was therefore authorized to execute the work 


Challenges

After the project was awarded and during the mobilization process, the client declared non-availability of the onshore disposal area. Detailed studies were subsequently made to support the client and an offshore disposal area was finally approved by the concerned authorities (Supreme Petroleum Council) for disposing the 20 Million m3 of dredged material.
